The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Philosophy and Religion Department will hold a lecture on justice and health care from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Grote 131, corner of Vine and Baldwin streets.

“Justice and Health Care: Adding Philosophy to the Debate” will be presented by Rick Mathis, director of research and analysis at the Ochs Center for Metropolitan Studies.

The presentation will look at how some philosophers have applied the idea of justice to health care and offer suggestions for how philosophy can be used to advance a more reasoned discourse on health care, according to a news release.

Works from philosophers John Rawls, Norman Daniels and Daniel Callahan will be discussed.

Mathis received his doctorate in political science from Johns Hopkins University, where he studied political philosophy and public policy. He directed medical policy research at BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee and has published widely on health care, health policy and medical technology.
