Chattanooga’s Incline Railway is set to close Monday as its cables are replaced.
The replacement should last less than three weeks, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority.
The railway is set to reopen April 25.
Cables are replaced around every three years, Charles Frazier, CEO of CARTA, said in the release. The railway has 5,100 feet of cable, which carry 71 tons, Frazier said.
“When we are finished in the several weeks we will be in the best operating condition possible to welcome our summer visitors,” Frazier said in a statement.
New cars were installed in 2020, replacing ones that had served 32 years on the line.
