Publix employees, including company CEO Kevin Murphy, joined staff from the Greater Chattanooga Area Food Bank on Tuesday to distribute food to residents at Gateway Towers, a public housing complex near downtown.
During the week of Sept. 16-20, nearly 7,000 Publix employees across seven states will volunteer with 150 food banks, pantries and nonprofit organizations during Hunter Action Month.
“It’s all about trying to alleviate hunger,” Murphy said in an interview. “We just really believe as a grocery retailer that the biggest impact that we can have is on helping to fight hunger in the communities that we serve.”
