McCallie shook off a sluggish start with 24 consecutive points in the second quarter, then rolled to an easy 41-9 win over Brentwood Academy to open TSSAA Division II-AAA East Region play Friday night.
The Blue Tornado (4-1, 1-0) were led by quarterback Elliot Drapeau, who threw for 256 yards and four touchdowns, including two scoring passes to Keyshawn Tabuteau, who finished with 101 receiving yards. Drapeau has thrown nine touchdowns in the past two games.
“I had a couple of drops early, but I didn’t let that get into my head,” Tabuteau said. “We had a good week of practice, and I’m confident in every play Coach calls.”
Brentwood Academy (3-2, 0-1) opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 38-yard field goal by London Bironas, but that was all the point for the Eagles in the first half. The visitors’ offense, led by five-star quarterback and Tennessee commitment George MacIntyre, was kept in check for most of the game by the McCallie defense.
