The former head coach of the Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Volunteers and Southern California Trojans was hired by Nick Saban as Alabama’s offensive coordinator in January 2014. The hiring was both praised and panned, but there is little doubt the Crimson Tide have benefited with three straight Southeastern Conference championships and three consecutive trips to college football’s four-team playoff.
There is also little doubt that Kiffin, who was named earlier this month as the new head coach at Florida Atlantic, has benefited since first arriving in Tuscaloosa.
“When you talk about the process, it really is about how Coach never changes,” Kiffin said Wednesday in a Peach Bowl news conference. “Every day is the same, and as a young head coach looking back, you had so many highs and lows. You might win a big game where the team plays really well, but maybe you don’t come back on that Sunday and push the staff the same way. Maybe on that Monday’s practice, you don’t push the players the same way.
“Here, it’s always the same. We had a 7:30 staff meeting this morning, where Coach goes over each five minutes of what we’re doing in practice. You don’t have to write it down, because it’s the exact same as every Wednesday practice for three years.”
