A Monroe County, Tennessee, deputy is recovering after being shot during a standoff with a man wanted on a felony warrant.

The barricaded man, identified in court records as Richard Neal Brown, 60, was uninjured, according to a statement from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Officers didn’t fire on Brown.

Following an encounter on Reed Springs Road in the town of Philadelphia, Tennessee, Brown was charged with five counts of attempted first-degree murder, evading arrest and resisting arrest, according to an affidavit. It was filed by Conway Mason, a Monroe County Sheriff’s officer, in Monroe County General Sessions Court.

The incident, reported at 1:20 p.m. Sunday, happened while Monroe County deputies were in the 2300 block of Reed Springs Road on an unrelated call when they spotted a man with an active felony warrant on a charge of vandalism from Loudon County, the state agency said. When deputies attempted to make contact with the man, whom they later identified as Brown, he barricaded himself inside a home. The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office was called in to assist, and officers briefly talked to Brown, who was inside the home.
