EDITOR’S NOTE: Since 2002, the Times Free Press has highlighted the top 12 college football prospects among Chattanooga-area seniors with its preseason Dynamite Dozen. The countdown of this year’s list continues with No. 11.

AJ Westfield has been part of the Bradley Central football program for less than three months, but he has already made a powerful impression on his new team.

Since transferring from rival Cleveland in late May, he has helped set the tone for the Bears with his ability, effort and voice during summer workouts and preseason practices. Westfield was even recently voted a team captain by players and coaches.

“He was one of the top vote-getters,” Bears coach Damon Floyd said. “That tells you plenty about what the rest of the team thinks of him. He busts his butt in pursuit drills and gets onto anybody who isn’t. When he’s not in, he’s coaching up the younger kids on the sideline.

“You combine that attitude with what he brings physically, and that’s something special.”
