Ron Hart: Despite Left’s maligning of Melania, her movie does well

As fortune would have it, we saw the “Melania” movie at a début in Palm Beach and liked it. But then I read the predictably negative reviews of leftist Hollywood critics and their ilk in legacy media. They predictably trashed it. When it debuted at the box office, the movie did very well.

The diminished honesty of the legacy media is such that the more they tell people not to see it, the more we know we should. It was like that with the book “Lord of the Flies” for me. We were told not to read it, so we did — which was its own punishment.

The left made much of “Melania” being funded $40 million by Amazon’s Prime/MGM, aka Jeff Bezos, for this, a complaint they never had when the Obamas were given an estimated $100 million to do movies for Netflix. They’ve produced almost nothing.

Double standards abound. When glossy Vanity Fair magazine floated a cover article on Melania Trump, the left went nuts. They caved. Melania has not been on the cover, yet they did three covers of Michelle Obama and two of Jill Biden. Melania is spectacularly beautiful, so that is all you need to know about how she is treated.

Critics say Melania Trump is unaccomplished. Neither is Michelle Obama. She got into to Princeton with God knows what kind of SAT score and minored in African American studies. Then she worked at a Chicago hospital. She was not proud of her country until her husband got elected president.

The reality is, being the first lady involves a lot of perfunctory events, like hosting Christmas parties and decorating the White House Christmas tree. Both Michelle and Melania decorated the tree well. Hillary maintained that she had nothing to do with the decorating, insisting the lights hung themselves.

Michelle had her “Let’s Move” vegetable garden initiative. Melania’s work has been on stopping bullying. Melania could win a Nobel Peace Prize for that work if she changed her husband’s Truth Social password.

The movie does talk about her parents becoming U.S. citizens during Trump’s first term and how her mom influenced her. The left tries to say the mother is illegal and should be deported. But she got her citizenship under a popular immigration plan both Bill Clinton and Donald Trump endorsed, wherein all 9’s are automatically never illegal.

I can just imagine the question on the citizenship test her parents took six years ago: “Who is president of the United States?” “Our son-in-law!” Timing is everything; the correct answer under Biden would have been less clear.

The movie has cute moments, like when Donald Trump goes into hyperbole about winning the election, and she handles him with a smile. She handles well the challenges of raising her son, the 6-foot, 9-inch Barron, walking around NYU vulnerable to left-wing nutjobs.

It shows Donald Trump as a family man. And he truly loves having a wife and family. So much so, he has had three of them.

Melania kept the movie positive, with no talk of how Democrats kept weaponizing government lawfare against them. The FBI famously raided Mar-a-Lago and put preprinted “Classified Materials” on inane documents Donald Trump had. The FBI also performed a frat boy-like panty raid on Melania’s closet and her underwear drawers. They marked this evidence “Victoria’s Secrets.” Why the FBI went into her bedroom closet and her panty drawer makes little sense. Seems like something J. Edgar Hoover might have liked to do.

It is important for any spouse to support their partner. Hillary, Michelle and Melania have done that well. As all wives know, standing behind their husbands is important, especially when they are on their personal computers.
