LAS VEGAS — Hendrick Motorsports driver Alex Bowman is out for a second consecutive week because of vertigo and will be replaced by Justin Allgaier in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
“Alex continues to work closely with doctors toward being medically cleared, but he’s still experiencing some lingering symptoms,” said Jeff Andrews, president and general manager of Hendrick Motorsports. “He’s put a lot into the recovery process, and we will continue to support him every step of the way. Our priority remains making sure Alex is fully ready before returning to the race car.”
Bowman was too ill to complete the third Cup Series race of the season March 1 at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, and was replaced with 20 laps to go by Myatt Snider, who had been working in the pits for Fox Sports at the time of the driver change. Anthony Alfredo dove the No. 48 Chevrolet in place of Bowman this past Sunday at Phoenix Raceway.
Allgaier won in NASCAR’s second-tier national series in Las Vegas a year ago while driving for JR Motorsports, a Hendrick. He has 84 career starts in the top-tier Cup Series, including the season-opening Daytona 500, where was involved in an early crash and finished 38th.
Bowman has eight career wins in 364 career starts on NASCAR’s highest level. He has had a full-time ride with Hendrick since 2018 and has made the playoffs in all but one season with the team.
