CHICAGO — The Atlanta Braves’ game against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night was postponed because of rain and thunderstorms.
It was rescheduled for Aug. 20, which had been a day off for both teams.
The Braves dropped the first two matchups in the three-game interleague series. The National League East Division leaders left 10 runners on base during Wednesday night’s 2-1 loss to the White Sox, who won 6-5 in 10 innings Tuesday.
Atlanta (45-23), which has the best record in the majors, has lost three games in a row just once this season, from April 4-6. The Braves and the White Sox (36-31), who sit atop the American League Central, are the only teams in the majors that haven’t recorded a four-game losing streak this year.
Chicago has won 10 of its past 15 games. Before the series finale against Atlanta was postponed, the White Sox traded veteran outfielder Derek Hill to the Philadelphia Phillies. They also activated outfielder Everson Pereira from the 10-day injured list.
Atlanta’s road trip continues with three games against the New York Mets (30-38), who are at the bottom of the NL East and 15 games behind the Braves. The scheduled starting pitchers for Friday’s series opener at Citi Field are right-handers Spencer Strider (4-1, 4.00 ERA) for the Braves and Nolan McLean (3-4, 3.98) for the Mets.
Atlanta left-hander Martín Pérez (4-3, 3.02), who was scheduled to start Thursday in Chicago, has been shuffled in the rotation and is set to get the ball in the second game against the Mets on Saturday. Right-hander Bryce Elder (5-3, 2.66) is Atlanta’s scheduled starter Sunday.
