Dreams came true for three Tyner girls’ basketball players Thursday, when Joslyn Brookins, Leya Mitchell and Mariya Staton made their college commitments official.

After helping the Lady Rams to 62 wins over the past three years, which included 25 in their final prep season, the special senior trio was celebrated with a large turnout during a signing ceremony at their home gym.

Staton, the TSSAA District 4-2A regular-season MVP, is headed to Albany Tech in South Georgia, while Brookins and Mitchell will stay closer to home to play for Cleveland State.

“Tyner girls’ basketball having three of us go on to play college basketball from one class is amazing,” said Mitchell, who had 215 career 3-pointers at Tyner despite an ACL tear as a freshman. “There are not many girls going to play college basketball in Chattanooga, so for us all to achieve this means a lot.

“We couldn’t have done it without Coach (Xavier) Marshall. He really motivated us to stay on the right path and let us know we could and will do this. We have shown the city who we are and have a good platform for the future.”
