Regatta worth saving
For more than two decades, the Head of the Hooch has become one of Chattanooga’s signature events, bringing national visibility, thousands of visitors and an estimated $12 million annually to our community. It is a tradition worth preserving.
Friends of the Hooch started discussion with city leaders and River City Co. three years ago on redesigning the waterfront. The planned 18-month closure of the south shore during construction, combined with unresolved questions regarding access, staging areas and event operations on both shores, creates uncertainty.
Analysis indicates the north shore alone cannot accommodate the regatta, while current plans would require modifications to ensure the event can continue successfully.
