Volkswagen is committed to its future in Chattanooga as the company’s board unanimously approved a plan Thursday to cut an additional 50,000 positions worldwide by 2030, a spokesperson said.

The German automaker previously announced 50,000 planned job cuts, bringing the total downsizing to around 100,000 positions, the largest restructuring in Volkswagen’s history.

The company has around 650,000 employees worldwide, including around 4,000 in Chattanooga at its only U.S. plant.

“The announcement outlines a global Volkswagen Group plan and does not identify any workforce impacts for specific locations, including Chattanooga,” Jeannine Ginivan, chief communications officer for Volkswagen North America, said in an email. “We are very committed to Chattanooga and actively exploring new products for the plant.”
