Gone are the days when Chattanoogans had to fly into Atlanta, Charlotte and other larger airports to reach their destinations. Now, nonstop flights are available to more than a dozen of the nation’s most popular cities from the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport.
Once thought of as purely functional spaces, airports have become extensions of the cities they serve. They’re the first impression, the first flavor, the first sense of place.
“The importance of nonstop flights is that they provide passengers with faster, more convenient access to their destinations,” said April Cameron, President and CEO of the Chattanooga Airport.
And with plans to add two more gates, plus a new parking deck, will more direct flights be offered?
“Our planned growth … doesn’t mean we necessarily have new flights to announce, but it positions us to be ready for an expansion without making our current facilities congested,” she said.
