MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Chattanooga area had softball teams finish one, two and three in the TSSAA Class A state tournament this week. Unfortunately for Marion County’s Lady Warriors, they were the three.
Silverdale Baptist Academy edged Marion County 2-1 in Friday’s losers-bracket final at Starplex No. 4.
Before the season started the Lady Warriors were unsure who there coach would be. Randy Ellis, the school’s girls’ basketball coach, eventually took the position and then guided the team to a 36-9 record and the highest state-tournament finish in program history.
“We wanted a state championship,” Ellis said. “We just missed it by a little bit.”
The Lady Warriors got consecutive one-out singles in the first inning from Breanna Vinson, Makayla Dalton and Haley Baker and took a 1-0 lead. The Lady Seahawks tied it with a run in the second and went ahead by scoring in the fifth.
