Council debates on whether to allow non-profits to dump in landfill

The City Council is expected to vote tonight on whether it will waive landfill fees for four different non-profit groups that operate local landfills.

The council changed the city ordinance in June to state that non-profit operated thrift stores would be required to pay fees when dumping at the city landfill. Several of the non-profits said they are helping provide a city service and saving taxpayer money by sorting through what can be reused and what needs to go to the dump.
