Seven inmates at Silverdale Detention Center have been charged after stabbings that occurred on April 23 and 24, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
In the first incident, an inmate was stabbed around 7:50 p.m. and taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening. He was treated and then released back to the prison.
Around 12:11 a.m. the following morning, five inmates claimed they had been stabbed by other inmates during an altercation at the prison. Three of the victims were taken to a hospital for treatment while the other two were treated on site by medical personnel.
Dewayne Lawery, James Dupree, Leonta Epps, Christopher Kenney, Luster Deloney, Jesse Ridley and Xavier Bickerstaff have been charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated riot and having contraband in a penal institution in the first stabbing, authorities said.
The victims of the second stabbing refused to cooperate with an investigation and declined to prosecute their alleged attackers, the release states.
