RINGGOLD, Ga. – Tommy Fountain has a theory on why his baseball team seems to enjoy going the maximum in these GHSA postseason series.
The Jackson County coach watched his Panthers lose badly for the third consecutive series opener but bounce back again to earn a split of Tuesday’s Class AAA quarterfinal series at Ringgold. The host Tigers pounded out 17 hits in winning the opener 14-9, but the visitors rebounded with a 6-2 win.
Game three is set for 5 today at Bill Womack Stadium.
“I think they just don’t like going to school,” joked Fountain, whose team gave up eight and 17 runs in its first two series openers. “This the third time we’ve lost game one and given up a ton of runs, so for our guys it was nothing new.
“I’ve said over and over this season that I feel like we built this roster to have pitching depth and to have a bunch of guys who can throw from different arm angles. We are built for a three-game series, but we’ll see where we are tomorrow.”
