Around the holidays, A Perfect Fit Boutique owner Tricia Dunn moved her store to Fort Oglethorpe in the Hamrick’s area shopping center.
“We were inside Hutcheson’s Physician Center for a little over 10 years,” she said. “There’s a lot more traffic up here. We are more out in the open and public.”
After managing a pain clinic for five years and not feeling like she was helping anyone, she decided to open A Perfect Fit, which offers a full range of specialized accessories – from prosthetics to bras to swimsuits – for women who have undergone a mastectomy. Dunn is an American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics-certified fitter of mastectomy products.
“And for the women going through chemo, we offer the wig, the head turban and scarves,” she said. “We are the only wig retailer that can file it to the insurance. It’s because we are a medical provider and participate with insurance companies. We have the post-surgical camisole that they need immediately after surgery with pockets for their drain bottles,” she added.
Originally, Dunn opened A Perfect Fit Boutique in Dalton under the umbrella of Griffin Medical Services, a local durable-medical equipment supplier. There was a request for mastectomy products, so five months later she opened the second location at Hutcheson.
At her new store, she plans to stock more retail items, like purses, jewelry and T-shirts. The 1,300-square-foot business already holds a wig room, a changing room, a billing office, a bra fitting room and a retail area.
“We are trying to help people here,” Dunn said, noting that one in eight women will get breast cancer. “Some of these ladies are very depressed and sometimes suicidal. And they walk out of here smiling.”
