PRAGUE (AP) – A British boy who was taken from a U.K. hospital without doctors’ consent was on his way to Prague with his parents for treatment for a brain tumor, officials said on Monday.

A spokeswoman for the hospital in Spain’s southern city of Malaga where 5-year-old Ashya King spent the last week says the boy left in the morning and boarded a medically equipped plane heading for the Czech capital.

Jan Stary, chief doctor at the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology of Prague’s Motol hospital said the boy will undergo necessary tests to determine his condition at Stary’s clinic. The plane was expected to land in Prague around noon.

Following the tests, the boy is to be treated at a proton therapy center, a different clinic in the Czech capital, starting next week, Stary said.

The boy’s parents, Brett and Naghmeh King, were arrested by Spanish police after they took Ashya from a hospital in the English city of Southampton and drove him to Malaga. They spent a night in jail but were released after British authorities canceled the arrest warrant.

The Kings want their son to be treated with proton beam technology available in Prague.
