FORT VALLEY, Ga. (AP) – Authorities say a man has been arrested in the death of a middle Georgia boy who was fatally shot through the door of an apartment.

Fort Valley Department of Public Safety officials said in a statement that a 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of 8-year-old Jaimel Anderson. Authorities have said Anderson was wounded several times when shots were fired into the apartment.

Authorities say the 25-year-old suspect was arrested while he tried boarding a bus in Birmingham, Alabama. Investigators say the man has not yet been charged and will be transported back to Fort Valley.

Investigators say they also found drugs and a stolen gun inside the apartment where the boy was shot and charges are expected in connection with that as well.
