Lindsey returns to UTC as coach

Another University of Tennessee at Chattanooga graduate is leaving UT-Martin to join Russ Huesman’s staff. Former UTC linebacker Jimmy Lindsey (1996-99) has been hired, bringing the number of former Mocs on the 11-man staff up to five.

Huesman declined to comment on the hiring because it wasn’t official yet, but Lindsey was hanging out with several other assistants in the football offices Friday. With the addition of Lindsey, who coached the defensive line at UT-Martin last season, UTC’s staff is back up to full strength after losing Fred Tate and Carter Cardwell.

Both of those openings were filled by members of Jason Simpson’s staff at UT-Martin. Geep Wade returned to his alma mater in early January, and now Lindsey has done the same. The Mocs’ offensive coordinator, Marcus Satterfield, was Simpson’s assistant head coach.

“It’s all part of coaching,” Simpson said Friday when asked about losing so many coaches to UTC. “Jimmy and Geep both played there, and that place is always going to be dear to them.”

Lindsey, who had a team-high 95 tackles during his senior season, was a restricted-earnings assistant at UTC in 2002-03. He then spent four years at Gardner-Webb, followed by a two-year stint at Miami (Ohio) before joining Simpson’s staff last season.
