U.S. Marshals Service agents in Louisiana took a Meigs County man into custody overnight in connection with charges of rape of a minor, according to a news release.

U.S. Marshals and Meigs County Sheriff’s Office personnel were seeking William Earl Knight on charges of repeatedly raping a minor over the past several years, according to the release. He was taken into custody in Louisiana at about 2 a.m.

According to the release, investigators with the Chattanooga Division of the Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force and Meigs County deputies began an investigation on June 4 in which they determined that Knight still could be in the area, but apparently he had fled south.
