SIGNAL MOUNTAIN: Lone Oak breakfast set for Saturday

Lone Oak Community Center monthly country breakfast is scheduled for Saturday from 7:30-10 a.m. The menu includes scrambled eggs, cooked apples, fried potatoes, grits, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, all for a $6 donation.

To support the Lone Oak Free Library, there will be an Iris Bulb sale during this month’s breakfast. There will be up to 10 varieties of rhizomes available priced from 50 cents to $2 each. Proceeds will be used to purchase books.

Plan to kickoff the summer with live music, dancing, a silent auction, wine and plenty of good food from many of Chattanooga’s finest restaurants in Renaissance Park. Bella Sera – “an evening in the park” – will be Saturday from 6-10 p.m. to benefit Chattanooga Endeavors. For more information on this fun event, visit www.BellaSeraEvent.com or www.ChattanoogaAndBeyond.com and type in “Bella Sera” for details.

The 39th summer production of the Signal Mountain Playhouse is “Brigadoon,” which opens on July 9 and runs July 9-10, July 15-17 and July 22-24.

The show is about two modern-day New Yorkers who are in Scotland on a hunting trip. While walking in the woods, they come upon a town that isn’t on their map. Intrigued, they go into the town to discover a village from another era. The men in the village are wearing kilts, and the women long dresses with tartan sashes. There is no electricity or telephones. The two men, Tommy and Jeff, get caught up in the life of the town with Tommy, who is engaged to a woman at home, falling in love with the beautiful Fiona.

Director Mike Lees is well known in musical and dramatic circles in Chattanooga, and choreographing the production is Jessica Laliberte Bowman of Squawking Heads Productions. Sandy Morris is conducting the 28-member Playhouse orchestra.
