Boy sent to hospital after access hole fall

COLUMBUS, Ga. – A 1-year-old boy has been sent to the hospital after falling into a water meter access hole at Lakebottom Park.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports Sunday that the boy was playing near the park’s tennis courts when he fell Saturday afternoon. The child’s grandmother noticed he was gone and heard him screaming, then found he had fallen into a hole filled with water.

Police report that the cover for the one-square-foot hole was missing.

Medical personnel took the boy to St. Francis for treatment and police said the city was called about the open hole.
