Fewer than half of the 10 counties in Southeast Tennessee have contested local races in the March 1 primaries, mostly for assessors of property and road superintendents.

Local political hopefuls face contested party primaries in Bledsoe, McMinn, Polk and Rhea counties. Property assessor races in Bradley, Franklin, Grundy, Marion and Meigs are uncontested. Sequatchie County is nonpartisan so there are no local primaries there, only presidential primaries.

In McMinn County, Athens municipal voters will vote yea or nay on a local sales tax rate hike from 2 percent to 2.75 percent.
