There has been a little more back and forth with the Tennessee-Kentucky football rivalry in recent years, and that includes on the recruiting trail.
Kentucky ventured into the Nashville area last year and snagged two of the Volunteer State’s top-five prospects – Pearl-Cohn receiver Barion Brown and Spring Hill linebacker Keaten Wade – while Tennessee on Sunday enjoyed a taste of Bluegrass success.
The Vols received a commitment from Cristian Conyer, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound cornerback from South Warren in Bowling Green. Conyer is a three-star recruit, according to 247Sports.com, which ranks him as the nation’s No. 56 cornerback and No. 553 prospect overall.
Conyer revealed his pick of Tennessee over Kentucky via a 35-second Twitter video, which elicited a “GBO” reply from Vols coach Josh Heupel. The 14th overall commitment in Tennessee’s class and the first from a cornerback visited Lexington on June 17 and Knoxville on June 24, and he plans on enrolling early.
“Tennessee’s really been doing their thing with recruiting,” Conyer told 247Sports. “In the future, we’re going to be looking nice.”
