ATLANTA – U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson has been released from Piedmont Hospital, where he was being treated for an irregular heartbeat and a blood clot in his leg.
It was the second hospital stay in just two weeks for the Georgia Republican. He spent four days the week before at Northside Hospital undergoing treatment for a bacterial infection.
Isakson’s doctor said Friday he was being released to continue his recovery at home.
His spokeswoman Joan Kirchner says the senator is in good spirits and will remain home to rest next week while the Senate is in recess.
Doctors detected an irregular heartbeat during an exam on Monday to check his progress recovering from the bacterial infection.
The 65-year-old is seeking re-election to a second term.
