Cleveland

Cyclists, joggers and walkers usually turn around on the Cleveland/Bradley County Greenway when they reach Raider Drive. On Wednesday the Greenway Board held a groundbreaking ceremony to launch Phase Five of the greenway along Mouse Creek. Funded with a $569,000 grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the new phase will connect the greenway from Raider Drive, in the background, north behind the Cleveland High School athletic fields to Tinsley Park and then connect to a pedestrian bridge dedicated in December, 2010. When the work is finished later this year, the greenway will be continuous for about four miles, from Willow Street north to Mohawk Drive.

MainStreet Cleveland's Halloween Block Party banners line most of downtown's streets waiting for the party that attracts thousands with music, costumes, air toys and treats.

The legendary Tall Betsy was spying on Cleveland Tuesday from the Craigmiles Hall roof in downtown Cleveland. As the leaves across Ocoee Street on the Courthouse Plaza are just turning to their autumn colors, Betsy is waiting for another sign of the season. The 25th anniversary Halloween Block Party is October 31. It is Cleveland's biggest downtown event of the year with a crowd usually estimated at 20,000 for the live music, vendors, Treat Street and costume contests.

“So many times when I ask residents or visitors what they love about Cleveland, their response is the people. Our city slogan is ‘The city with Spirit,’ and that encompasses so many qualities of our community — the spirit of hospitality with warmth and friendliness; spirit of preservation as we improve the interpretation of our community’s history and character; spirit of investment and capitalism with growth in business and industry and job creation; spirit of patriotism with a love of country and community.”- Melissa Woody, Cleveland Chamber of Commerce
