U.S. and New York City officials fortunately seem to have backed away from their earlier bad judgment in proposing to have a New York City trial for terrorists accused of being involved in the 9/11 attacks.
The terrorists caused about 3,000 deaths, as well as great damage and disruption, when they hijacked airliners and caused crashes into the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon outside Washington and a field in Pennsylvania. They certainly should not be allowed to cause more disruption by tying up New York City as a site for their trial.
Just imagine the tremendous security measures that would be necessary for a trial that could last many months if it were held in the midst of a major population center.
Consider the possibility that some other terrorists might consider a New York trial site as an ideal place to commit other atrocious acts.
We do not want our safety and security to be further threatened.
The trial obviously should be conducted outside any large population center, where security could be more easily assured. Perhaps a military base would be ideal. There are other reasonable suggestions.
The trial should be conducted in accord with our laws, with assurance of real justice, and without any new danger to our people.
