The two women who were stabbed in a domestic attack on Saturday in Cleveland, Tenn., were a woman who had a child with the suspect and her mother, Cleveland police spokeswoman Evie West said.
Chrissy Bean, 21, and her mother, Karen Sue Rhodes, 38, remained in critical condition at Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga on Sunday, West said.
Both were flown there by air ambulance after suffering severe stab wounds from a knife, she said.
A third victim’s injuries were not critical and he was taken to SkyRidge in Cleveland.
Police were called to the apartment at 2086 Wynwood Drive shortly after 7:30 p.m. Saturday, where they found the three wounded people and the alleged attacker, Vicente Ramirez Fernandez.
Bean and Fernandez had been in a relationship and had a child together, West said. She called the attack domestic violence but no details about motive were released.
The third victim was a neighbor, Dennis Grissom, who had come to the apartment after hearing arguing.
Police arrested Fernandez on a charge of attempted first-degree murder.
Three children in the home were taken in by the Department of Children’s Services.
