Baylor boys second to MUS in Cunningham Preview

Junior Sam Marshall on Tuesday scored 10 strokes less than his first-day score and helped Baylor finish as the boys’ team runner-up in the Matt Cunningham Preview high school golf tournament hosted by Baylor at Black Creek Club.

The Red Raiders totaled 297 on Tuesday after registering a 308 on Monday. First-day leader Memphis University School ended up eight shots better than the Red Raiders with a cumulative 597.

“The course is in good shape,” Baylor coach Gary Partrick said. “It was a pretty big stage. We have the best teams in from around the state, regardless of classification. This was a really good day for Sam and for us.

“Three hundred has been our goal, and we were able to clear that today. There were some good teams here.”

Hendersonville’s Bryce Lewis was the boys’ medalist with a two-day 5-under par 139, four shots better than runner-up Goodman Rudolph of Memphis University School.
