ATLANTA – U.S. Rep. David Scott has easily defeated two Democratic newcomers challenging him in Georgia’s 13th District.
Scott won with 79 percent of the vote in unofficial returns Tuesday, with 48 percent of precincts reporting. Challenger Mike Murphy had 15 percent, followed by Micharl Frisbee with 6 percent.
Scott, of Atlanta, is seeking a fifth term in the metro Atlanta District.
Murphy, of Mableton, served as campaign manager to Scott’s Republican opponent in 2008. Frisbee, of Winston, considered running as an independent, but decided the only way to beat the incumbent was to run as a Democrat.
Republican Mike Crane, of Fairburn, led a six-way Republican field with 34 percent, followed by Deborah Honeycutt, of Riverdale, with 29 percent.
