The Hamilton County Board of Education will discuss next year’s proposed $310 million budget Thursday at 5 p.m. at the board offices at 3074 Hickory Valley Road.
“I encourage all interested parties to attend this work session and then contact the school board representative with their input,” board Chairman Kenny Smith said.
School district administrators outlined budget highlights last week. Next year’s budget has a projected $8.6 million shortfall.
To make up the deficit, the budget calls for eliminating about 41 teaching positions, cutting Central Office spending, not filling vacancies and dipping into reserve funds.
The board is expected to adopt the 2011 budget at a called meeting on May 6. School system administrators will present the budget to Hamilton County commissioners on May 12.
