While we were testdriving a 2010 Cadillac SRX from Kelly Cadillac, the dealership called to request we hurry back because a buyer was ready to write a check – a good omen for this brand-new model. The redesigned SRX crossover SUV has a blend of value and luxury that may prove irresistible. Our generously e q u i p p e d black SRX stickers for less than $40,000.
DRIVING IMPRESSIONS:
The base engine in the 2010 SRX is a 3.0-liter V-6 that makes 265 horsepower. A turbo variant is available, which boosts horsepower to 300. Our tester came equipped with the normally aspirated engine and proved to be comfortably potent on a short test drive on Highway 153. Our front-wheel-drive tester offered crisp handling and a tight turning radius. A sixspeed automatic transmission shifts almost imperceptibly. Equipped with seating for five passengers, the SRX has a wagon-like feel that should impress drivers stepping down from more trucklike sport-utes.
STYLING AND FEATURES:
The SRX is a nice variation on the bold, angular lines of the popular Cadillac CTS. Its relatively short wheelbase makes for a nice, compact profile. Several trim levels are available. Our tester was equipped with a Luxury Collection, which includes an expansive sunroof that bridges both front and back seats, attractive leather seats and a power, multi-stage lift gate. Standard features include 18- inch alloys, power driver’s seat, reclining rear seats and dual-zone automatic climate control.
BOTTOM LINE:
The SRX’s compact size and relatively good fuel economy will make it a tempting option in the small crossover market. Aggressive pricing and good looks won’t hurt either.
