Free Press Opinion: Mandated Bible history study, prayer time rejected for schools

Since any public school student is allowed to engage in silent prayer at any time of the school day or read their Bible during lunch or any non-instruction time, it was gratifying to see the "Protecting Religious Liberty and Expression in Public Schools Act," which would have required voluntary Bible study and prayer time, effectively removed from consideration during the remainder of this session of the Tennessee General Assembly.

Contributed Photo / Tennessee House members have voted to send a measure that would mandate a time for Bible reading and teaching the Bible as history and literature in public schools to summer study.

Free Press Opinion: Reelect Vince Dean as Criminal Court clerk

Hamilton County Criminal Court Clerk Vince Dean says voters need to consider, in determining whether to reelect him to a fourth four-year term, if they want someone with a track record as a good leader, if they want someone who handles their personal finances well, if they want someone who can motivate a team, and if they want someone who will not be a micromanager but allow people to do their jobs.
