Pastor Bo: Don’t turn off that hearing aid
It is with the greatest of fondness that I quite often think back on my grandmother and grandfather. They have both been gone for some years now, and there are still days when I ache for their presence.

Both in person and online, I have quite often encountered an annoying sort of person with an unbiblical, illogical opinion that pastors should quite literally work full-time for free.

It was a bitterly cold winter day, and my breath was hanging visibly in the air each time I breathed out. I had just arrived at the church and was shivering as I walked from it to the fellowship hall. "How could it possibly be this cold?" I was muttering to myself, when suddenly I caught sight of something out of the corner of my eye.

It was among the most grotesque sights I have ever seen. To this day, my memory is scarred by it.

I am brutally hard on clothing, especially footwear. This is mostly because I tend to go seamlessly from preaching to wading through mud to deal with some electrical or plumbing issue needing to be quickly addressed. So after a few years of ruining things that did not need to be ruined, it finally dawned on me that I needed to have work boots lying around in every location I tend to inhabit.

There was only a slight breeze kissing my young cheek, but I smiled with the contented knowledge that it would be enough. My kite had never yet failed to take flight; it was the best in my seemingly infinite neighborhood.

"The edge of the whirl was represented by a broad belt of the gleaming spray; but no particle of this slipped into the mouth of the terrific funnel, whose interior, as far as the eye could fathom it, was a smooth, shining, and jet-black wall of water, inclined to the horizon at an angle of some forty-five degrees, speeding dizzily round and round with a swaying and sweltering motion, and sending forth to the winds an appalling voice, half shriek, half roar, such as not even the mighty cataract of Niagara ever lifts up in its agony to heaven.

My son now towers over me at 6 feet 3 inches tall and is also developing some adult-size wisdom. But I can still vividly remember the days when both his stature and his judgment were much smaller.

I have gone through several phases in regard to auto repairs.

Christmas morning of this past year, 2017 (and can you believe we are already in 2018?), dawned clear and cold at our house. By cold, I mean that the air temperature was 34 degrees.
