Dunlap man charged with arson

A 68-year-old Dunlap man faces two arson charges and possibly more after being arrested last week.

Walter David Stockwell has been charged with two counts of setting fire to personal property in Sequatchie County and has charges pending in Hamilton, Grundy, Van Buren and Marion counties, according to a release from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture.

The department’s Ag Crime Unit arrested Mr. Stockwell after fires in Sequatchie County that burned “many acres of forest land and injured firefighters.”

“Forest arson is a very serious crime, and we will prosecute offenders to the full extent of the law,” said Max Thomas, agriculture investigation supervisor.
