Thoughts on how money is spent?
“Ethanol lobby fights to keep billions in U.S. subsidies.”
“Medicare and Social Security are going broke.”
Comments, anyone?

School incentives reward failure
County School Superintendent Scales’ plan to give incentives to principals and teachers at Howard High is actually rewarding failure.
The school is failing because people like Mr. Scales are rewarding failure rather than firing principals and teachers who do not do the job they are paid for, teaching our students.
The principals and teachers should be given six months to turn their schools/classrooms around and if not, they should be terminated. This should also apply to Mr. Scales.

Some people never learn
What have we learned in 2,065 years? …
“The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.” — Cicero, 55 BC
Evidently nothing.

Prosecute officers for resisting orders
If our military officers such as Maine Corps Chief of Staff Gen. James Conway are determined to resist the orders of the president as commander in chief, the secretary of defense and the Congress on repealing “don’t ask, don’t tell,” why are they still serving on active duty? Why is any active duty officer allowed to enter political debate? He should be court-martialed!
America’s right is encouraging such officers to refuse to carry out “certain” orders. Why? It appears to be the same fears that far-right cranks have peddled for generations. Replace “socialism” with “communism” and you are pretty much back to 1964 or 1934 or 1884, for that matter.
