A little more than 48 hours after he was introduced as the new women’s basketball coach at East Carolina, Wes Moore called University of Tennessee at Chattanooga athletic director Rick Hart on Thursday a little after 4 p.m. and asked for his job back.

Moore, who had an introductory news conference at ECU on Tuesday, told the Times Free Press that he never felt like his heart was fully in the job.

“That’s a special situation (at ECU) and a great university, and (athletic director) Terry Holland is an unbelievably patient and understanding man, but I felt like whoever takes the job needs to go in there with a whole heart,” Moore said. “I just felt like my heart was still in Chattanooga.”

Moore and Hart will discuss the turnaround tonight at an 8 o’clock news conference at McKenzie Arena.

Moore, who won 11 Southern Conference regular-season championships and eight SoCon tournament titles in his 12 seasons at UTC, went back and forth on whether to take the job for about a week. Sunday night he informed the team of his decision. Now he gets to tell the Lady Mocs that he’s coming back.

Hart, meanwhile, gets to call off his coaching search.
