Chattanooga fire under investigation

The Chattanooga Fire Department is investigating an early morning house fire that left no injuries, said Bruce Garner, spokesman for the department.

Firefighters responded to an alarm at 737 Sylvan Avenue around 2 a.m. to find the second floor of the house completely engulfed in flames with fire vaulting through the roof, said Battalion Chief Mike Knox.

Firefighters with Engine 15 kicked the front door open to make a quick search, but did not find anyone. They could not search the second floor due to the intense flames, Garner said.

It took four fire companies about 40 minutes to get the fire under control, said Knox.

Neighbors told fire investigators that a family had moved out of the house about two weeks ago. Since then, neighbors said they have seen children going in and out of the vacant house.
