A Knoxville man died Saturday night after his vehicle collided head-on with a tour bus on U.S. Highway 64 in Polk County.
Lloyd Sowers, 56, was traveling eastbound in his 1987 Dodge vehicle when he crossed the center line and collided with a tour bus that was traveling westbound, said a Tennessee Highway Patrol operator who wished not to be named.
Sowers was transported to Erlanger hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the operator said.
Two people out of the 22 on the bus were taken to the hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.
Police responded to the call at 10:48 p.m. The wreck happened in front of Unlimited Adventures, located at 522 U.S. Highway 64, the operator said.
Alcohol was “probably a factor,” the operator said, but police are waiting for the autopsy report for confirmation.
The wreck is still under investigation, police said.
