Kathy Mattea will kick off Patten Performances series

The 2010-11 Patten Performances series kicks off Sept. 24 with Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Kathy Mattea and concludes March 29 with the SF Jazz Collective.

The series, held in the Fine Arts Center at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, is named in honor of Dorothy Patten, who was one of Chattanooga’s most famous performing artists. It was created 30 years ago as a means to bring to town some of the art forms that were not being presented in Chattanooga at that time, according to presenter Bob Boyer.

It is funded by the University of Chattanooga Foundation.

Over the last three decades, the series has featured theater, dance, vocal, spoken word and comedy performances.

This year’s schedule continues that tradition with musical performances by Mattea, Eroica Trio and the SF Jazz Collective.

Dance is represented on the schedule by Dayton Contemporary Dance and Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana.

Anthony Zerbe will present the works of E.E. Cummings in “All Done With Mirrors.” The Walnut Street Theater, which was founded in Philadelphia in 1809, will present “The Glass Menagerie.”

“I think it a really strong and diverse series,” said Boyer.

Individual show tickets ($15-$22) and ticket packages ($105-$133) are available through the UTC Fine Arts Center box office, corner of Vine and Palmetto streets, or online at tickettracks.com.
