Police are investigating a failed kidnapping in East Ridge, according to police spokesman Officer Erik Hopkins.
A 12-year-old girl was waiting for the school bus Friday morning at the intersection of Benson and Moreview roads when a vehicle stopped in front of the bus stop, Hopkins said.
The girl said the driver then asked her if she wanted a piece of candy and she refused, Hopkins said. The suspect then grabbed the girl by the arm, but she was able to get away, Hopkins said.
The suspect was described as a 50-year-old, thin, white male. He has brown and gray hair, is clean shaven and at least 5-foot-10. He is thought to be driving an older white Nissan or Toyota pickup truck with several scratches, Hopkins said.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the East Ridge Police at 423-867-3718 or the confidential tip line at 423-867-0016.
