Leach, Lookouts dominate Suns, 8-1

The Chattanooga Lookouts won for the eighth time in 11 games Thursday night, routing Jacksonville 8-1 in the series opener at AT&T Field.

Chattanooga improved to 29-31 with 10 games remaining in the Southern League’s second half and is emulating its first-half finish, when the Lookouts won 11 of their last 15. The Lookouts finished nine games back of Tennessee in the first half and are nine games back of the Smokies this half, too.

Brent Leach allowed just two hits in six scoreless innings for the Lookouts, who scored five two-out runs in taking a 5-0 lead through two innings. Eddy Perez had an RBI single to right field and Kyle Russell had a two-run double to center to highlight Chattanooga’s four-run outburst in the first inning, and Corey Smith’s double to left scored Jerry Sands in the second.

Two nights after the Mobile BayBears committed four errors at AT&T Field, the Suns provided the Lookouts with the same number of gifts.

Lookouts center fielder Trayvon Robinson walked once and scored, but he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Robinson heads into the final 10-game stretch with a .302 average.
