University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football coach Russ Huesman met with the media twice before 1 p.m. Tuesday. First during the Southern Conference teleconference, followed by his Mocs media luncheon.
Here’s some of what he had to say, as well as comments from a few other SoCon coaches:
Russ Huesman
On game week …
“I think today’s practice will kind of sink in to our guys that it’s game week for sure. We’ve been practicing Appalachian State stuff here for probably four or five days previous to this, so we’ve started that process.”
On this season’s team …
“We had a great camp and I feel real good about where our football team is. I think we have a better football team right now than we did last year, even though we lost some good football players from last year’s team.”
On Monday’s comment to the Chattanooga Quarterback Club that “We’ll win a national championship here, some day.” ….
“I put a ‘will’ instead of a ‘can.’ I should have put a ‘can’ in there. And my reference was that this job is a good enough job and the resources and the recruiting area and everything – you can win a national championship at Chattanooga.
Jerry Moore
On whether he’s had the depth at running back that he does this season …
“Probably not the quality depth that we’ve got right now. I feel like we’ve got four or five guys that are all pretty good football players.”
On being anxious to start the season …
“We’re no different than those players. We’ve been working hard all summer and during camp, and we’ve got two or three new coaches and they’ve talked about it being a rough or a hard camp. We like to think that we work hard.”
Jeff Monken, Georgia Southern
On how quickly the Eagles are picking up the triple-option offense …
“Quick wouldn’t be the word I’d [use] to describe it, but we’re catching on. It’ll take time and it’s a process, and I don’t know that our guys will completely be grooved in this entire season.”
