The Tennessee Valley Authority and other federal, state and local agencies will conduct a regularly scheduled emergency preparedness drill at the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant near Soddy-Daisy on Wednesday.
TVA announced today that the exercise will involve about 1,000 TVA, state and county emergency responders in Hamilton and Bradley counties. Such drills are required each year under TVA’s operating licenses with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which will evaluate how responders handle a simulated accident at the plant.
TVA spokeswoman Myra Ireland said residents who live within the 10-mile evacuation area around Sequoyah may see radiological monitoring teams or other responders in action as part of the drill and may hear on-site and off-site sirens.
