FALL CREEK STATE PARK, Calif. – A man and his son, who set out on hike Saturday morning hoping to find their missing neighbor, brought tears of joy to the family of Debra Collins when they found her off an unmarked trail in Fall Creek State Park in California about 11:30 a.m.
Joe Deguara and his 7-year-old son, Dillan, needed to get out of the house this weekend and when they learned Friday that a neighbor was missing, they decided to see what they could do.
The father and son were about two miles in when they apparently came across Collins on Lost Camp, an unmarked trail, heavily covered in leaves and twigs, almost unrecognizable as a trail. It was rainy, cold and damp in the beautiful area near a flowing creek. But there was Collins, down the ravine suffering from hypothermia.
It’s not clear if she has other injuries as rescuers had just reached her about 2 p.m., though sheriff’s deputies did not think she’s seriously injured.
Deguara said her husband texted her to say he’d found Collins. She was OK and he’d called 911.
Emergency dispatchers said they could hear Collins talking in the background as Deguara spoke to them this morning.
Debra Collins had been missing from her rural Felton home since about Nov. 24, though she was reportedly seen hiking the next day.
