Chattanooga-based PlayCore Holdings has bought two companies to expand its product offerings, its chief executive said Friday.
PlayCore acquired BigToys Inc. of Olympia, Wash., and Spectrum Products LLC of Missoula, Mont.
* Big Toys, which has 30 employees, manufactures earth-friendly commercial playground equipment from sustainably harvested wood or recycled steel and plastic.
* Spectrum Products, with 28 workers, makes an array of products used in construction, operation and maintenance of commercial swimming pools and spas. It specializes in assisted-access lifts.
“PlayCore is committed to advancing play through research, education, partnerships and a full array of product solutions,” said Bob Farnsworth, head of the company that designs, makes and markets playground, park and recreation, and youth fitness programs and products.
The purchase prices weren’t revealed. The deals boost PlayCore’s headcount to nearly 800 workers. It has 55 people in Chattanooga, the company said.
BigToys will continue operating in Olympia and former owner Tim Madeley will be general manager.
“We just celebrated our 40th year of business, and we are looking forward to new growth opportunities,” he said.
Spectrum Products will be added to PlayCore’s EverActive Brands Group, according to the company.
“They further expand our full service product offering that is consistent with our mission of helping build communities through play,” said Farnsworth about the acquisitions.
