Girls Preparatory School faculty member David Cook was the only Tennessean awarded the Marshall Memorial Fellowship for 2011.
He will join others from 37 European countries and the United States in a 24-day traveling program this summer to develop knowledge of political, economic and social institutions and issues facing the United States and Europe, according to GPS and the fellowship’s website.
Cook, who has been on the GPS faculty since 2004, was named the Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2007 and has been a member of the faculty committee, a team leader and advisor to the Amnesty International club.
He also is a former board member of Interfaith Homeless Network, a member of CHANGES, an anti-poverty group; and a professor of peace studies at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
